Fujitsu HVAC Installation, Repair & Service in NYC — Certified

Fujitsu makes the quietest residential ductless on the market and the smallest concealed-duct air handlers in the industry — both real advantages in NYC apartments and pre-war buildings where neighbors are 12 inches away through a wall and the parlor floor ceilings clear at 8'6". Our team has installed Halcyon and Airstage systems across the city for over a decade.

TEAM EXPERIENCE

Why our team is the right Fujitsu installer in NYC

Fujitsu has two technical advantages over the rest of the residential ductless catalog: the quietest indoor units in the industry and the smallest concealed-duct air handlers anyone makes. Both translate directly to better NYC installs — but only if the contractor knows when to use them. Here is what a decade with the brand looks like in practice.

Our techs have installed and serviced Fujitsu Halcyon, Slim Duct, and Airstage systems across NYC since 2014 — wall-mounted, ceiling-cassette, concealed-duct, and floor-mounted indoor units paired with single and multi-zone outdoor condensers.

Fujitsu's Custom Slim Duct concealed-duct air handler has a profile noticeably smaller than Mitsubishi PEAD or Daikin FXFQ equivalents. For pre-war NYC ceilings (Manhattan brownstones, walk-up apartments), it fits in soffit chases the others cannot.

Halcyon RLS indoor units run as low as 19 dB on minimum speed — quieter than the next-best competitor by 3-5 dB. In NYC apartments with party-wall neighbors and downstairs tenants, that difference is the line between 'I forgot it was on' and 'we have a noise complaint.'

Fujitsu General America is headquartered in Fairfield, NJ — closer parts and tech support than Asian-imported brands shipping from regional warehouses. For NYC service work, that translates into faster part availability and clearer manufacturer escalation when needed.

From Halcyon residential ductless to Airstage VRF — we work the full Fujitsu catalog

Fujitsu product lines we install and service

Halcyon residential ductless

Fujitsu's flagship residential line — Halcyon RLS single-zone wall-mounted units (the quietest in the industry), AOU/AOUM multi-zone outdoor units feeding up to 8 indoor heads, and a full range of indoor unit styles for any room type.

Custom Slim Duct concealed-duct

The smallest concealed-duct air handler in the industry — fits soffit chases that Mitsubishi and Daikin cannot. Our go-to for NYC pre-war buildings where central-air-style hidden ductwork is the goal but ceiling clearance is the constraint.

Halcyon Hyper Heat & Extra Low Temp

Cold-climate variants rated for capacity at low ambient temperatures — full operation down to -15°F on Extra Low Temp models. For NYC homeowners who want to retire a gas furnace and run heat pump only.

Airstage VRF (J-Series, V-Series)

Fujitsu's commercial VRF lineup — J-Series for small to mid commercial buildings, V-Series for full commercial heat pump and heat recovery systems. The smaller-scale alternative when full Daikin VRV or Mitsubishi City Multi is overkill for the building.

When Fujitsu Slim Duct or Halcyon RLS is the right call over the bigger brands

We install Mitsubishi, Daikin, and LG far more often than Fujitsu by raw volume. But two specific NYC scenarios point to Fujitsu first. First: pre-war buildings with low ceilings — Manhattan brownstone parlor floors, walk-up apartments, finished basements — where hidden ductwork is the goal and Mitsubishi PEAD or Daikin FXFQ concealed-duct units physically do not fit. Custom Slim Duct fits, and the install looks invisible from below. Second: party-wall apartments and noise-sensitive homes — Brooklyn brownstone bedrooms next to a neighbor, doorman building units with sound-conscious boards. Halcyon RLS at 19 dB minimum is quiet enough that the unit disappears from awareness. If neither constraint applies, Mitsubishi or Daikin is usually a better fit.

OUR PROCESS

How we install Fujitsu systems

Same workflow every Fujitsu install — load calc first, fit-and-noise verification second, equipment from the catalog third. Order matters: the building tells us whether Fujitsu is the right brand, not the catalog page.

01
search

Site visit, fit & noise check

We walk the building, measure ceiling clearance for any concealed-duct considerations, check party walls and adjacent rooms for noise sensitivity, and run a real Manual J load calc. If the building points to Fujitsu (Slim Duct fit or noise constraint), we say so honestly.

02
document

Equipment selection from the catalog

We match the building to the right Fujitsu line: Halcyon RLS for quiet single-zone, AOU multi-zone for whole-house, Custom Slim Duct for low-ceiling concealed installs, Halcyon Hyper Heat for cold-climate, Airstage J/V-Series for commercial. Itemized quote with rebate math.

03
calendar

Permits, rebates, scheduling

DOB mechanical permits, Con Edison NYC Clean Heat filing, federal 25C tax credit documentation, board approval package (co-op/condo work), and freight elevator coordination — all before install day.

04
shield

Install, commission, warranty registration

Clean install, full commissioning with documented startup readings (refrigerant charge, line-set pressures, FGLair Wi-Fi setup), and Fujitsu warranty registration filed on your behalf within the 60-day window.

FUJITSU-SPECIFIC ANSWERS

Fujitsu HVAC FAQ

Questions we get every week from NYC homeowners considering Fujitsu Halcyon, Slim Duct, and Airstage systems.

Who owns Fujitsu HVAC? Fujitsu General Limited, a subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited (the Japanese IT and electronics conglomerate), manufactures and markets Fujitsu HVAC products worldwide. In North America, the line is distributed by Fujitsu General America. The parent company's electronics background informs Fujitsu's inverter drive technology and control systems, which are among the most refined in the mini-split category from an electrical engineering standpoint.

What is HVAC-R? The R stands for Refrigeration — expanding the acronym to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration. HVAC-R technicians are licensed to handle refrigerants under EPA Section 608, which is required for anyone working on Fujitsu mini-splits or heat pumps. In New York, installing or servicing Fujitsu refrigerant circuits requires both an EPA 608 certification and a New York City master HVAC license.

Do you need a permit for HVAC replacement in New York City? Yes. The NYC Department of Buildings requires a permit for most HVAC replacement work, including Fujitsu mini-split installations that involve new refrigerant piping or electrical circuits. Work must be filed by a licensed contractor. Unpermitted installations can create insurance complications, void manufacturer warranties, and cause problems at resale — so confirm permits are pulled before any Fujitsu installation begins.

How often does HVAC need to be serviced? At minimum once a year; twice annually is better. For Fujitsu mini-splits, the indoor unit's washable filter should be cleaned by the homeowner every 2–4 weeks during heavy-use seasons. Annual professional service should include coil cleaning, drain pan inspection, refrigerant charge verification, and a check of the inverter board's diagnostic codes — Fujitsu's self-diagnostic system logs error history even after the unit resets.

Does home insurance cover HVAC replacement? Typically no — standard homeowners policies exclude equipment that fails due to mechanical breakdown, wear, or age. A Fujitsu system damaged by a sudden covered peril (lightning strike, fire, falling object) may be claimable, but gradual failure is not. Fujitsu's registered warranty covers parts for up to 12 years on select models, which is your primary protection against major component costs during that window.

What is the best HVAC brand for ductless applications in NYC? Fujitsu consistently ranks at the top alongside Mitsubishi for reliability, cold-climate performance, and low-ambient heating capability. Fujitsu's Halcyon and AOU series units operate effectively down to -13°F, which matters for NYC winters. Parts availability through local distributors is good, and the inverter compressors have a strong track record for longevity when installed correctly and serviced annually.
