Indoor Air Quality & Ventilation Solutions
in NYC
IAQ Experts
Fresh air systems, air purification, humidity control, and code-compliant ventilation — engineered for NYC's tightest buildings. Because the air you breathe indoors matters more than you think.

HEPA & UV-C Purification
The air inside your building is making people sick
EPA studies show indoor air can be 2-5x more polluted than outdoor air. In sealed NYC buildings with poor ventilation, allergens, VOCs, mold spores, and CO2 build up to levels that cause headaches, fatigue, and respiratory problems.
Stuffy, stale air
Afternoon headaches and brain fog — CO2 over 1,000 ppm dulls thinking. Your sealed building can't breathe.
Odors and cooking smells
Kitchens, salons, and gyms without proper exhaust let smells drift to neighbors and spark tenant complaints.
Humidity and mold
Too much moisture breeds mold; too little dries you out. NYC buildings swing both ways without control.
Failed DOH inspections
Kitchens and medical offices face strict ventilation codes — failing means fines, shutdowns, and rush fixes.
IAQ SOLUTIONS
Cleaner Air for Every Environment
From a simple air purifier upgrade to a full building ventilation redesign — we engineer indoor air quality solutions that meet code, improve health, and reduce energy waste.
Ventilation & Fresh Air Systems
ERV, HRV & Makeup Air Units
Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) bring fresh outdoor air into your building while recovering up to 80% of the energy from exhaust air. We also design and install makeup air systems for commercial kitchens and exhaust-heavy spaces.
Air Purification Systems
HEPA, UV-C & Bipolar Ionization
Hospital-grade air purification integrated into your existing HVAC system. HEPA filtration captures 99.97% of particles, UV-C germicidal lamps neutralize viruses and bacteria, and bipolar ionization actively cleans the air in real time.
Humidity Control
Humidifiers, Dehumidifiers & Monitoring
Maintain optimal 40-60% relative humidity year-round. We install whole-building humidifiers for dry winters, commercial dehumidifiers for damp basements and pool areas, and smart monitoring systems that track conditions in real time.

Why NYC Breathes Better with ART HVAC
Real IAQ projects. Measurable improvements. Healthier spaces.
HOW IT WORKS
From Assessment to Clean Air
Every IAQ project starts with measuring what is actually in your air — then engineering a targeted solution.
IAQ Assessment
We measure CO2, humidity, particulate levels, and airflow patterns throughout your space. You get a clear picture of what is wrong and why — backed by data, not guesses.
Custom Solution Design
Based on your data, building type, and budget, we design a targeted IAQ solution — ventilation, purification, humidity control, or a combination. You approve the plan and pricing before we start.
Professional Installation
Our licensed crew installs the equipment, integrates it with your existing HVAC system, and handles all permits and inspections. Minimal disruption to your daily operations.
Verify & Monitor
After installation, we re-test air quality to confirm measurable improvement. Optional smart monitoring systems give you real-time visibility into CO2, humidity, and particle levels.

FAQ
Questions We Hear Every Day
Practical answers about indoor air quality and ventilation.
Do all HVAC systems have fresh air intake? No. Many residential split systems in NYC recirculate indoor air without any dedicated fresh air path. Packaged rooftop units and central air handlers in commercial buildings typically include a mixed-air damper for controlled outdoor air, required by NYC Mechanical Code for occupied spaces. Older walk-up apartments often rely entirely on operable windows for ventilation, which is why indoor air quality problems develop faster when windows stay shut.
What is IAQ in HVAC? IAQ stands for indoor air quality — the measurement and management of airborne contaminants like particulate matter, CO2, volatile organic compounds, humidity, and biological pollutants within a building's air distribution system. In NYC, dense occupancy, limited ventilation in older housing stock, nearby construction dust, and subway exhaust all elevate IAQ risk. Poor IAQ is linked to respiratory symptoms, fatigue, and reduced cognitive performance in building occupants.
How to check for mold in HVAC system? Start at the air handler: remove the access panel and inspect the evaporator coil and drain pan for black or greenish patches with a flashlight. A musty odor that intensifies when the system runs is a reliable early indicator. Duct cameras can inspect supply and return trunk lines without demolition. ERMI or air sampling tests can confirm mold species and spore counts if visible inspection is inconclusive.
What causes mold in HVAC system? Persistent moisture is the root cause — specifically, standing water in the condensate drain pan, a cracked drain line, or humidity above 60% inside supply ductwork. NYC's humid summers mean cooling coils are constantly wet; if the fan runs after the compressor shuts off, that moisture dries. If it doesn't, mold colonizes the coil and pan within days. Leaky duct connections can also draw in humid attic or crawl-space air.
How to get rid of mold in HVAC system starts with fixing the moisture source — a blocked condensate drain, oversized cooling equipment that short-cycles, or duct leaks pulling in humid air. Once the moisture is controlled, an EPA-registered antimicrobial coil cleaner removes surface growth. Heavily contaminated ductwork sections may need physical cleaning or replacement. HEPA-filtered air scrubbers during cleaning prevent spores from spreading to the rest of the indoor-air-quality environment.
