The Copeland Discus is a semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor redesigned with a disc-valve assembly that reduces valve stress and improves volumetric efficiency at low suction pressures — important for medium- and low-temperature walk-in applications. NYC supermarkets and large delis favor Discus units for their field-serviceability: valve plates, gaskets, and connecting rods can be replaced on-site without pulling the entire compressor, which cuts downtime significantly compared to hermetic alternatives.
A Copeland compressor repeatedly tripping the high-pressure safety most often means the condenser is rejecting heat poorly — dirty condenser coils, a failed condenser fan motor, or inadequate airflow around a rooftop or basement unit. In a NYC basement plant room, blocked return air paths are common.
