Properly installed and maintained, 15-20 years is realistic on a residential Copeland Scroll in NYC. Commercial Discus units in walk-in service run 10-15 years before rebuild or replacement. For older Discus units in long-running walk-in or rack applications, a full rebuild can cost roughly 40-60% of a new Copeland replacement and add 8-12 years of service life. The trade-off is downtime (rebuild requires shipping to a Copeland-authorized rebuilder). For mission-critical walk-ins, replace; for warehouse rack applications with redundancy, rebuild often makes sense.
